Seawinds residents receive title deeds

13 February 2024

The City’s Human Settlements Directorate is visiting areas across the metro as it continues its mission of delivering title deeds to residents. The Mayoral Committee Member for Human Settlements, Councillor Carl Pophaim, and officials within the Directorate handed over 17 title deeds in Seawinds today, 13 February 2024.

'In the last few months of 2023, we succeeded in our mission to create almost 1 500 new homeowners as part of our Festive Deeds Challenge. We are excited to continue along our journey of creating homeowners through handing over title deeds and keys. This really is delivery in action and I am proud of what we are achieving. It is always a pleasure to celebrate with title deeds beneficiaries and their families. Access to tenure for residents changes lives and brings dignity to the beneficiaries and their loved ones for many generations to come.

'We encourage all beneficiaries to come forward to claim their title deeds. These deeds will help these residents in formalising their home ownership, providing proof of ownership to their benefit as well as for their families and unlocking future financial opportunities such as the legitimate sale of the property.

'The Directorate currently has more than 12 000 title deeds on its registry. Additional resources have been put in place to find the residents who will benefit from better tracking and tracing and we have set aside some R21,6 million toward this goal. We are motivated to empower beneficiaries and we encourage residents to spread the news about our goal of creating more homeowners. Thank you to our dedicated team of officials for making this possible,' said Councillor Pophaim.
